Outer Gallery

The Outer Gallery explores the earliest origins of mathematics and their connections to the mathematics we use today. Whether you have a deep interest in mathematics and history or are someone who simply wonders, the engaging presentation and activities in Outer Gallery will help you understand and appreciate the significant role of early civilisations in developing the concepts that underpin modern advances in mathematics.

Inner Gallery

Discover an interactive wall dedicated to the Greek Millennium of Mathematics, explore a large binary numbers display with interactive elements showing how digital technologies like the GPS work, and experience a fascinating collection of calculating devices, including the abacus, the Fuller Calculator, computer punch cards, hand crank calculators and more!

Library

The Library is the private collection of Dr Calvin and Rosemary Irons, generously opened to the public, with around half of the collection available for visitors to pick up and read. The Gallery’s library houses more than 6,000 mathematical books, some dating back centuries. Highlights include the first mathematics textbook published in North America—also the third book ever to receive a U.S. copyright. The oldest book in the collection dates back to 1699. Its a must see to believe library!
